Foster Mother: Cheryl Buchanan, 52; Cheryl has no children of her own. She began working in foster care when she was in her early twenties and soon became a foster parent. With a degree in psychology, she is aware of the discipline needed for the children in her care and the way to positive reinforcement. Reason for Admission into Foster Care: Neglect, incarceration, slight death; her parents split up when she was very young and her father ended up killing himself. The services arrived and took her into custody and arrested her mother, who has been in and out of the penitentiary for five years.

Reason for Admission into Foster Care: Neglect, truancy, abuse; Trevor’s mother died when he was about five and things went downhill from there. His father was not a support system, seeing as he reminded Trevor daily that he was unwanted from the get-go, and it made it very hard for him to deal. When he got to fifth grade, Trevor’s father began hitting him; in order to keep it hidden, he stopped going to school. The school became curious and called DCFS to make a home-inspection. Upon arriving, they found the living environment less than satisfactory and took Trevor away.
